Saying Christ is enough for me is a very bold statement, regardless of which season we
are in life. This does not mean that we don’t need anything else, but it’s proclaiming that
Jesus fulfills our deepest needs - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s about
finding joy and contentment in Jesus and knowing that Jesus is the greatest love for all
of us. " I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content
whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is
to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every
situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do
all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 14: 11-13.
I begin by sharing the song Christ Is Enough by Hillsong Worship to help us reflect on
our own journey with Jesus. As single women, we encounter many challenges, and we
may even feel incomplete from time to time. But as Christ followers, we know that our
fulfillment comes from Jesus, because we are rooted in Him, and Jesus is enough for us.
Jesus said in John 15:4-5 " Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear
fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in
me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it
is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." It is essential for us
to be rooted in Jesus because He gives us life.
When I think of the women in the bible who reflect a Christ-centered life, I’m reminded
of Hannah- who remained faithful through her heartfelt prayers; Sarah- although she
struggled and doubted, she also trusted God’s promise to her; Ruth- her faithfulness
and perseverance led her to be a part of Jesus’ lineage; Mary, Jesus’ mother- her
obedience and faithfulness; Mary Magdelene- a woman who was devoted to following
Jesus. All of these women and many more lived a life dedicated to God and His will for
them.
What does this mean for us today? How are you choosing to live a Christ-centered
life as a single woman today, even in the unknown? Whether you’re single by
choice; because of a broken relationship, a separation by death; or because you’re in
the waiting, God has called you by name to live a life that glorifies Him. Your
identity in Christ defeats all other names, titles, and identities. Isaiah 49:16 says “See, I
have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”
God holds us in His hands.
Someone once said to me, “In your singleness, live a life that prepares for the future.”
Regardless of where you are in life now, I encourage you to live with purpose and a life
for Jesus. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for human masters... It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:23-
24).
In these last few years, I have met so many single women in different seasons. I used to
think that singleness only refers to those who were never married, but God has
opened my eyes to see single women from all walks of life. Whichever season you’re
in, whether you’ve never been married, divorced, separated, single-mom, widowed, or
foster/ adopted mom, you are still loved by the one true King, and you’re not alone
in this journey. My sisters in Christ, I know we’re all walking in different stages in life
and the busyness of this world catches us off guard, but I encourage you to keep
pursuing Jesus; submit to Jesus; seek Jesus and know your identity in Him;
abide in His love; Trust in His timing; Embrace your contentment; and Pray
without ceasing.
My prayer for you, Friend, is for you to remain in Jesus’ love and receive the joy that
Jesus currently placed in your life. To my non-single friends, embrace the person you
are in Christ Jesus, because He is enough for all of us. “You make known to me the
path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right
hand.” Psalm 16:11
